A Message from Head Teacher

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

As you may be aware, we have a new receptionist at Woodlands. Her name is Miss Tait. Given the change in reception staff I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to remind parents and carers of the key personnel in school so that you and we can ensure your requests are directed at the right people.

If your child has an issue with a particular subject, whether that be homework or class work, concerns should be addressed to the Subject Leader. All their emails are on the website and on the next page of the newsletter. You can of course leave a message via reception.

If the issue is a pastoral one this should be directed to the Year Leader or Assistant Year Leader. We are very lucky to have Assistant Year Leaders who are non-teachers so they will be able to respond swiftly to issues. Again they can be contacted via email or by phone (details can be found on the website and on the next page).

We are increasingly finding parents turning up at reception demanding to see staff immediately. We all have significant teaching timetables and scheduled commitments. This often means we cannot immediately address your concern. If a message is left at reception we will respond to it as soon as is physically possible.

Sadly, we have recently had incidences of parents being rude and abusive to staff in reception and on the phone. This is not acceptable.

As a parent myself I understand your frustration if things have not gone to plan for your child. I give you my assurance we will always address your concerns. I will not though tolerate staff being abused verbally. Should this happen you will be asked to leave the site or the call will be terminated.

Thank you to all those parents who work in partnership with us to ensure the very best for your child. I hope this clarification in relation to contact points will improve our ability to support your child effectively

In the spirit if working in partnership, after half term we will be reviewing our Anti Bullying Policy. With the increasing issues nationally with social media, we feel we need to review our policy to ensure we have addressed this. We are keen to get parents input in to this. If you would like to be part of a small working party helping us reshape our policy then please contact Miss Iverson by email to

Best wishes
