Clubs & Activities
Woodlands have teamed up with Southampton Football Club and the Saints Foundation to focus on improving numeracy and literacy and also providing many new sporting activities throughout the year. This new partnership will bring many new opportunities at Woodlands for our students. These opportunities include the opportunity to participate in enterprise challenge that is held at St Marys’ Stadium where students will get chance to compete against others local school in the challenge.
The activity consists of a core of 10 one hour sessions where students have the opportunity to work with many different club employees and learn about the different roles that are carried out behind the scenes.
There are also many sporting activities which will be held at lunchtime and after school between 5-6pm at Woodlands with different sporting coaches and clubs, These clubs will help students with leadership skills, organisation as well as improving fitness and skills levels. These will be updated termly.
Also The futsal Academy from saints will be training at Woodlands every day after school. The Futsal Academy offers a route into higher education and sports coaching in industry. Many Woodlands students have gone through this process and now at university or working for Saints on their sports coaching programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into a different type of football. Saints are also looking for high level played to join their national league Futsal team and being part of this training and team will benefit all the students involved.
Premier League Women and Girls’ programme
This is a ‘girls only’ session that will be run per week at the school as an after school club. This programme will establish a pathway with a local girls team and both the school session and the club sessions will be delivered by the same coaches. Any girls that excel at the school and community sessions will then be referred to our centre of excellence that Saints have established with the Hampshire FA.
Leadership qualifications and sports awards will also be available for students to participate and achieve whilst on the course. The Community Champion when in role we be running this courses for students who want to gain leadership experiences in sport.
Woodlands is very lucky to have Mr Steve Ketteringham, a new member of staff taking on the community Champion role. Steve will be specifically working on the partnership with Southampton Football Club to help pupils improve their literacy, numeracy and resilience. Steve will also mentor students and work closely monitoring progress and achievement.
